Axis of evil...

Sometime ago I was watching The Tonight Show and during the headlines segment they showed an article in a paper called the Dispatch where people were asked "Now that Iraq has become a democracy, who should join North Korea and Iran in the axis of evil?" This was the consensus . I laughed out loud, I wondered was it just a mistake or do people really think this? Who knows but at least it should give you something to smile about!

It is hard to say goodbye...

I was having a difficult time coming up with anything to write about today, mostly because nothing interesting is going on in my life. So I decided that today I would talk about saying goodbye. Ok, really I am not going to be deep, I am saying goodbye to a fellow blogger...one that does not know I exist for that matter. I started reading his blog about a month or so ago and it always makes me laugh out loud when I read it. (Not always a good thing because I am normally at the library when this happens.) But today it was time to say goodbye, because he has moved his blog to an undisclosed location after some of his colleagues found it and spread it around the office. So even though you don't know me, and you will never read this I am saying "goodbye, and I hope that all goes well for you in your undisclosed location where ever it may be."

You know you watch too much TV when...

It is a sure sign that your TV watching habits are extensive when you are looking at a county map of Arkansas (an Anglo-American Geography thing...need I say more?) and a few of the county names jump out at you, and not because they are similar to those in your state, but because they are the names of characters from TV shows. I have included a few examples:

Benton- as in Dr. Peter Benton from er
Greene- as in Dr. Mark Greene also from er
VanBuren- as in Lt. Anita VanBuren from Law and Order

In response...

This is in response to the comment made by the man a the tire store. I hope it clears things up!

Word of the Week...

eclectic • \ih-KLEK-tik\ • adjective 1 : selecting what appears to be best in various doctrines, methods, or styles *2 : composed of elements drawn from various sources; also : heterogeneous

Did you know?"Eclectic" comes from a Greek verb meaning "to select" and was originally applied to ancient philosophers who were not committed to any single system of philosophy; instead, these philosophers selected whichever doctrines pleased them from every school of thought. Later, the word's use broadened to cover other selective natures. "Hard by, the central slab is thick with books / Diverse, but which the true eclectic mind / Knows how to group, and gather out of each / Their frequent wisdoms. . . ." In this 19th century example from a poem by Arthur Joseph Munby, for example, the word is applied to literature lovers who cull selective works from libraries.

Putting things together

I decided that I would do something somewhat productive and put together my new TV stand.

This is what it looked like in the box

This is what it looked like when I was finished

But should I have these extra pieces???

(sorry about the poor quality of the pictures, I will try to do better next time.)

Random questions and things over heard part deux...

What the?

Is this a question? In the 19th century, the Supreme Court sanctified segregation by legislation referred to as the "Black Codes". According to my professor of Anglo-American Geography it is. She also said "cotton is grown as far west as Mississippi, oh yeah and also in California". Last time I checked California is just a bit further west then Mississippi. Then again she also said "Oh my God is it's a bee" when she was told that it was just a lady bug she decided that it might be ok to proceed with the class.

Good news though we finally finished going thought the quiz, which wasn't a quiz that we started on Monday. Yes it took us two days (2 and 1/2) hours to go over 21 non quiz, quiz questions. Yeah for us!!!

By the way there is only one week left of classes and we have yet to mention that Canada actually exists. So I have decided to go with the philosophy that maybe Canada is just an illusion, I'll tell you how that works out later.

So as I left this very enlightening class today I asked myself a very important question: Is it a bad thing when you leave a class feeling dumber then when you entered??

I want a bowling award...

Driving down the street yesterday I saw a sign that said: "50% off entire stock of bowling awards" I thought I don't have any bowling awards, maybe I should stop in and get some, but then I realized that I really don't need any bowling awards at this time. Maybe next time they go on sale I will pick up a few, just to have on hand.

Random thoughts and things overheard...

Random Thoughts:

  1. Is it weird that I like the commentary on DVDs so much?
  2. Does Orlando Bloom have it in his contract that he can only do period pieces?
  3. It's probably not a good thing when you can hear air coming out of your car tire, right?

Things Overheard

  1. (Girl on cell phone) "Ok, I have to ask you a question, it's kinda strange...ok, true or false which do you like better strawberry jelly or grape?" Does she know that when you ask someone which they like better it is not a true or false question?
  2. (to me, I was wearing an "I 'heart' NY" tee-shirt) "If you love New York why do you live in Michigan?" to which I said "My sister lives there" then a few minutes later "I was just joking I love New York too."

Ok, so this list is pretty lame. I know I had some really funny observations, but alas I can't seem to remember them right now. So I will leave you with this...

Disappointment doesn't even start to explain it...

So twelve definitely, most definitely is not the new eleven. To say that I was excited about the DVD release of Ocean's 12 would have been an understatement. What was I most looking forward to you might ask, well I have already seen the movie more then a couple of times, so it was not to see what happened, but rather it was the special features. I waited all these months some more patiently then others to hear what Steven Soderbergh had to say, well I guess I may never know what he thinks. Why is this?? The OC12 DVD has virtually no special features. Lets see what does it have...oh, the theatrical trailer, well I've already seen that. To say I am disappointed would also be an understatement.

12 is the new 11

Last week I posted about the poor quality of movies as of late, that being said I must say that I am extremely excited that Ocean's 12 is out on DVD today! I know, I know but I am in love with Ocean's 11 (I can recite it) so anytime I get to see more of my guys I am happy. I just wish there were some good suits in 12 like in 11.

Well I would love to stay and chat more, but I have to get going, I have a date with a TV. I just can't wait to see what kinds of special features they have in store for me.

So I thought that this week instead of learning a new word I would make the word of the week one of my favorite words. So here it is:

quirky
adj : informal terms; strikingly unconventional [syn: far-out, kinky, offbeat, way-out]

"Quirky" can be used to explain so many things, so try it today!

Yeah...I have nothing

I would like to start off by apologizing about yesterdays rant. I really do understand that you have much better things to do with your lives, I only wish I did. I thought when I started this thing that I would have witty stories that would be amusing to others, I don't. So here it is another quote, this one comes from the sign in front of the school near my house. "If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door" Hmm I think that they could come up with something better than that. I am thinking of compiling a list of quotes to send to them, so if you have any suggestions I would be very grateful.

Where are you???

Have you noticed that no one is reading this?? I have, I know that it is not that interesting and people are busy but come on. I asked a few of you before I started this if you would read it, and you said sure... (you know who you are). I don't need comments although they are nice, but I have site meter so I know that you aren't even reading. So I ask where are you, where the hell are you. (Replace you with they and you have a quote from my favorite movie ever) Well if your out there and you just happened to stumbled across this boring little blog I will be forever sorry.

By the way did you know that the word "blog" doesn't show up in the blog dictionary, curious, huh?

You learn something new everyday...

...or at least you hope you do.

So I know that I have to be careful when it comes to caffeine. One cup of coffee and I will not be able to sit still for hours. I went to my parents house for the weekend, I just happened to have a coupon for my favorite coffee shop, which just happens to be located near my parents house. The coupon was for buy one get one free, so naturally I had to get two "Iced Caramel Marvels" (yumm) I told myself that I was to drink one on the drive and the other once I got home, instead I drank both in about twenty minutes. Needless to say I had a bit-0 trouble sitting still yesterday. I can't be sure if it was from the coffee but I also had a lot of trouble getting to sleep last night. Hmm????

By the way this is not the first time this has happened to me. I guess I will never learn. Darn you delicious irresistible Caramel Marvel, darn you.

Word of the Week

halcyon (HAL-see-uhn) adjective
1. Peaceful; tranquil.
2. Carefree; joyful.
3. Golden; prosperous.
noun
Any of various kingfishers of the genus Halcyon.
[From Greek halkyon (kingfisher) via Latin and Middle English. Halcyon was a mythical bird, identified with the kingfisher, that was said to breed around the winter solstice. It nested at sea and had the power to charm the wind and waves so that they became calm.]
In Greek mythology, Alcyone was the daughter of Aeolus and wife of Ceyx. When Ceyx drowned in a shipwreck, she threw herself into the sea. Out of compassion, the gods transformed them into a pair of kingfishers. To protect their nest, the winds were forbidden to blow for a week before and after the winter solstice.

If only this was an April fools joke

I have known that it has been coming for sometime now, but the worst has finally happened. I read an article yesterday that said that Noah Wyle is leaving er. This may not seem like life or death to some, but to me it is close. I have been watching er since the beginning, and with each cast member that has left I have said "at least we still have Carter". I have told many people that the day that Carter leaves is the day I stop watching my beloved er but, the folks at NBC and presumably Noah Wyle himself have decided that it would be best for him to do a few episode a year in the upcoming two seasons. This means that I most likely will continue to watch "just in case" Darn them!!
