For many years now there has been a family of ducks that live on my parents' property. And over the years they have become very accustomed to the people that live there. They don't come up to you, which is probably a good thing, but they don't really seem afraid of people either. There have never been any baby ducks, or ducklings for those of you that insist on proper terms, because even though they lay eggs they never hatch. Most years they are eaten by predators, but other times it seems that they just don't really know how to take care of the eggs. Their family is non-traditional, it's made up of two males and a female. (Actually, I'm not sure if this is non-traditional in the duck world or not. If anyone out there knows, help me out.) I've really enjoyed getting to know these ducks over the years and look forward to their return each spring, hopefully they keep coming back for years to come. (Oh yeah, anyone out there know how long ducks live for?)
