What do you think?

"It is because of optimists that pessimists know how happy they aren't" (sadly I do not know who said this, but whoever you are I would like to give you credit)

I heard this quote on the morning news about a month ago, I really like it, and I would like to know what you think. I know it is not the most thought provoking quote ever, but still please humor me. Do you think you are an optimist or a pessimist? Do you think that this quote applies to you? ect...

I love that quote!! I am an eternal optimist. Oh sure, I have my pessimistic moments, but overall, I'm an optimist. I drive my daughter crazy!! :0)

at first glance, the quote seems sensible, but i dont think it really holds true.

it implies that pessimists must compare themselves to others in the first place. oh sure, we all compare ourselves to each other, but i think that the concept that pessimists are always "boohoo, this person is happier than me," doesnt really make a lot of sense. none of the pessimists i know think or behave like that, they're more like "yeah sure, you might think things are ok now, but wait untill tomarow, you'll see" (in regards to optimists.)

i also think its a bit silly to assume that optimism=happiness and pessimism=sadness.

no, i think that pessimists would know exactly how unhappy they are (if they even ARE unhappy) with or without optimists around.

as for myself, im not sure if i am an optimist or a pessimist. i guess it depends on the topic?
